Mantle Decorating Ideas for Summer
Hello all! Are you looking for unique mantle decorating ideas for summer? Well, you’re in the right place! I just decorated my mantle, and I have to say I’m digging it lol. It’s the first time I decorated my mantle for the summertime, as I have fewer summer decorations vs. the other seasons. But there’s a first time for everything! So let me walk you through my process!

Summer Mantle Decorating Idea
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this on the blog, but I had 2 weddings at different times of the year. I was a Covid bride and married my husband in January 2021. We had a small wedding and reception. Later once Covid died down, we had a larger reception in May 2022.
The original theme of my actual wedding was a Christmas tree farm because my husband proposed at one. Plus, I’m a sucker for a Christmas tree farm-themed wedding, so it was perfect!
To be able to use a lot of the same decorations for the reception in May, I tweaked the theme to be more of a mountain-themed wedding. As a result, we inherited different décor (like the vines), and I made decorations too (S’mores sign).

Mantle Decorating 101
I didn’t want to spend money on new decorations (even though I’m loving the lemon summer décor), so I used what I had on hand. By using what I already had and mixing it with a little bit of creativity, I ended up with a finished decorated mantle!
Whenever you want to decorate a mantle, you need to consider a few things:
- Size: Do you have the width and height to add big decorations? Or is it best to stick with smaller ones?
- Color: What colors are surrounding the mantle and the mantle itself? Stick with colors that complement one another. In my case, I wouldn’t want any of the decorations to be bold or neon because it would be fighting the color of the brick.
- Style: what’s your style? Do you like the farmhouse look? Or more contemporary? Stick with the overall theme of what’s already in the house or the direction you want to take it.
- Non-Seasonal Décor: A mantle should always have those “non-seasonal decorations”. So, in my case, the candlesticks and the mirrors are non-seasonal because I can use them any time of the year. If you want your mantle to have that seasonal touch, add seasonal décor too!
- Balance: Work with odd numbers of decorations and try your best to balance the height.
- Use what you have: I am a huge fan of using items that once served a purpose but for some reason, you can’t use it anymore. So, for example, the tea kettle was a gift, but the paint ended up chipping on the inside. I didn’t want to use it for its original purpose, but it is too cute to throw away, so décor it is! The same idea applies to the little lantern. It was a gift to my husband, but it’s so unique. We don’t use lanterns often, so instead of sitting in a closet waiting for its moment to shine, I think it serves a multipurpose use as a decoration on the mantle!
